The students of the natural stone cycles and the families of building and civil works visited last Thursday, February 27th the company GRANITOS DE EL LOURO (GRANILOURO), dedicated to the transformation and commercialization of granite. The students saw firsthand the lines of research and prospecting of new materials that are being developed in this leading company. GRANILOURO has the privilege of being located in a prestigious granite area, with many of the quarries that supply it less than 100 km away. This allows them to control their carbon footprint in transporting the raw material to their factory.
In this same outing the students also visited the Granite Technological Center in Porriño, which was constituted as a non-profit foundation in 1999 and was later declared of Galician and industrial interest. The FCTGG is mainly dedicated to promote activities related to innovation, research and technological development in the granite and other natural stone sector. At present, the FCTGG collaborates actively with public institutions, city councils, universities and companies.
Specifically, the activity of the FCTGG is focused on the following actions for the natural stone sector:
Promotion of scientific research and technological development of processes and products.
Promotion and defense of sustainable development
Training, guidance and technical and technological assistance
Promotion and technical dissemination of the use of granite and natural stone among prescribers (architects, quantity surveyors, construction companies, engineering firms…).
