PICASSO’S GUERNICA, REPRODUCED IN STONE AT THE CIFP DE CANTERIA DE GALICIA

The work can be seen, along with the rest of the students’ end-of-year pieces, in the exhibition open to the public from Monday 23 June until Friday 13 July from 9:00 to 14:00.

The students of the old plan of the old Escola de Canteiros, which this year finishes its last course, worked on a scale reproduction of Picasso’s Guernica, measuring approximately two metres high by almost four and a half metres wide and weighing a total of 1,200 kg.

The students of the new cycle of Natural Stone with a high specialisation in stonemasonry (the only cycle in Spain that takes over from the now defunct School of Stonemasons) also collaborated in parts of the process.

The process was directed by the teacher and master sculptor, Adrián Otero Chantada, and by the machinery officer and teacher of stone cutting, Manuel Ángel Vidal Santos.
