Former students who studied for qualifications at the former School of Stonemasons (three-year stonemason and five-year master stonemason) will be able to use this adapted collective procedure (based on that established for companies) promoted by the Directorate-General for Vocational Training to accredit the professional skills they acquired during their training (from one to five completed courses).
In order to develop the accreditation of the qualifications issued by the former School of Stonemasons, the management of the current CIFP de Cantería de Galicia coordinated a commission made up of staff from the centre who were transferred and had extensive experience in the former school: Mª del Carmen Fernández Senra (in the area of administrative and management work) and master stonemasons Adrián Otero Chantada (sculpture teacher in the previous stage and currently) and Manuel Ángel Vidal Santos (machinery operation tasks and currently also involved in teaching).
With a single administrative procedure covering a simple representation form available on the website of the current CIFP de Cantería de Galicia (www.cifpcanteria.gal), they will certify a minimum of five units of competence (one academic year completed at the School of Stonemasons) and a maximum of fifteen for those who had completed the master stonemason training. They will not have to provide any documentation other than the completed and signed form, in addition to a photocopy of their ID card.(by sending the acreditacion.cifp.canteria@edu.xunta.gal), as the documentation of the studies completed will be validated directly from the integrated vocational training centre, through the reports issued by the assessment committee.
In this regard, students who have completed three full years (stonemason qualification) will obtain the IEXD0108_2 professional certificate in Natural Stone Working (RD 1217/2009, of 17 July, amended by RD 713/2011, of 20 May). Students who have obtained the master stonemason qualification will also complete the UCs corresponding to the professional certificate IEXD0209_2 Craftsmanship and restoration in natural stone (R.D. 713/2011, of 20 May).
These units of competence correspond to those contained in the modules currently taught in the intermediate cycle of natural stone at the CIFP de Cantería, which may be validated in accordance with the provisions of Article 14 and Annex IV of Royal Decree 1587/2011 of 4 November, establishing the Qualification of Technician in Natural Stone and setting out its minimum teaching requirements.
CIFP Stone Masonry of Galicia
On 3 August 2023, DECREE 119/2023 of 20 July was published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG), thereby transferring to the Autonomous Community of Galicia the functions, services, and human and material resources of the Poio School of Stonemasonry provided by the Provincial Council of Pontevedra and agreeing to transform it into a public educational centre under the authority of the Regional Government of Galicia.
On 30 August 2024, DECREE 176/2024, of 8 July, was published in the DOG, creating the Integrated Centre for Professional Training in Stonemasonry in Galicia. This centre continues the traditional teaching of sculpture and stone masonry of the former Poio School of Stonemasons. This non-regulated training was transformed into an intermediate vocational training course, a highly specialised natural stone course in stonemasonry, leading to a double official qualification as a natural stone technician and a technician in plastic arts and design in artistic stone reproductions. In addition, the centre currently offers three training courses in the professional field of building and civil engineering, in which it aspires to be a benchmark in our autonomous community: a basic course in building renovation and maintenance, an intermediate course in construction and an advanced course in building projects.
